he enterprise C-suite might be all-in on AI, but the workforce is not as quick on the uptake.
A Gallup poll released on Monday finds that roughly 12% of US workers used AI daily in their roles in the past quarter. Meanwhile, around 26% reported being frequent users, defined as using the tech at least a few times a week.
However, while 38% of employees reported that their organization has integrated AI into their workplace, nearly half of US workers polled (49%) reported that they never use AI in their jobs.
- Gallup noted that the increases were uneven across industries in the past quarters, reporting a sharper uptick in finance organizations, moderate gains in manufacturing and “signs of leveling” in high-adoption technology fields. Retail adoption, meanwhile, stayed flat.
- A lot of the traction was concentrated in remote roles, Gallup noted, with 66% of total AI users having “remote-capable” positions.
- Employees in leadership positions used the tech more frequently than other roles: 69% of leaders reported using it, compared to 55% of managers and 40% of individual contributors.
Though C-suite executives and leaders are getting riled up about AI as stakeholders breathe down their necks for returns, the asymmetrical nature of adoption underscores that workforces remain wary. And while many surveys and reports claim that AI will result in catastrophic job displacement, Gallup finds that the biggest barrier to adoption is actually utility.
